Always A Day Away~

Past,Future,Present - 7-12-2012

One fine day, a lady was inside a mall doing her Christmas shopping. Her eyes immediately brightened up when she noticed a poster outside one of her favourite shops:

The next day, she happily skipped into the shop and started putting things into her cart without even looking at the price tags, why bother?

Her eyes almost popped out when the cashier informed her the final amount to be paid.

“Why is it still so expensive? You didn’t even apply the discount.”

The lady glared at the young cashier.

The cashier requested in a stammering tone and so, the lady started reading it out loud.

The moral of this story:

TODAY is a present but you can always enjoy a good discount during TOMORROWs!!

May this short and hopefully laughable story prepare you for a great day ahead!

Till then,

Cheers & TTFN~ 😀

The Reason Behind Your Smile + Your Favourite Christmas Song Part 7

Allow me to be the reason behind your smile ~ unknown

CUTENESS is usually characterized by some combination of infant-like physical traits, especially small body size with a disproportionately large head, large eyes, a pleasantly fair, though not necessarily small nose, dimples, and round and softer body features.

I Luv Puppy

Konrad Lorenz argued in 1949 that infantile features triggered nurturing responses in adults and that this was an evolutionary adaptation which helped ensure that adults cared for their children, ultimately securing the survival of the species.ID-10079461

As evidence, Lorenz noted that humans react more positively to animals that resemble infants—with big eyes, big heads, shortened noses, etc.—than to animals that do not.

The gender of a person can determine their perception of the difference in cuteness.

In a study by Spengelmeyer et al.(2009) it suggests that women were more sensitive to small differences in cuteness than the same aged men.

This suggests that reproductive hormones in women are important for determining cuteness.

The widely perceived cuteness of domesticated animals, such as dogs and cats, may be due to the fact that humans selectively breed their pets for infant-like characteristics, including non-aggressive behavior and childlike appearance.

Studies have also shown that responses to cuteness—and to facial attractiveness in general—seem to be similar across and within cultures.

The phenomenon is not restricted to humans. The young of many mammal and bird species share a similar set of typical physical proportions, beyond absolute body size, that distinguish them from adults of their own species.

In the recent finding of a juvenile Triceratops skull, one journalist suggested its features, which included “a shortened face and big eyes”, were “probably as cute as a button – at least to its mother”.

Read more at:

The word cute is pronounced as ‘ke ai’ (可爱) in Mandarin.

Sadly, there was a period of time when people had misused these two words by calling females ‘ke ai’ but actually meant ‘ke lian mei ren ai‘  (怜没人爱 – You are pitiful because nobody loves you).

怜 (ke lian) – pitiful

没人 (mei ren) – nobody

 (ai) – Love

Fortunately I’ve not been hearing this cruel joke nowadays, so GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

Now, for the ‘Your Favourite Christmas Song‘ section, we’ve another lovely soul, Tessa William, who has the same  favourite Christmas song as Findthedetails (posted in Part 5 ) —  Fairy Tale of New York.

Since the first song was actually a video provided by the lovely soul him/herself, I will have another YouTube video, in this case, the link, dedicated specially for Tessa as the video just wouldn’t appear in this post… 😦

Hope you all enjoy this post.

Our Project – Part 2

A lovely soul by the name of LindaGargiulo has touched our heart in this project because she has invited two friends of hers to help us with the translation.

Linda is also the first to participate in the designing of our 20% discount coupon and we will be featuring her design on the 27th Jan 2013.

If you are interested in contributing a your coupon design, feel free to do so even if you are not interested in obtaining the discount coupon. Click here for more details.

Without further adieu, here are the translations given to us by Linda and her wonderful friends:

“What comes free, has a sweet stay, and is soon to go.”

Translated by Linda

“What is free is yet to come, what is sweet stays, what came for a brief moment had to go.”

Translated by Linda’s friend.

“May you arrive freely, may your stay be sweet, and may you leave for a short while”

Translated by Carl (Linda’s friend)

As I was re-reading all the comments, I realized that I’ve missed out the translation done by Julespaige:

“What is free is sweet. Let it be, for it is briefly with us.”

We’ve managed to rearrange the words and present you with our interpretation inspired by the above translations

Our Project - Part 2

This interpretation is similar and yet slightly different from the previous one because we are making word ‘brief’ as an individual element whereas the word ‘brief’ was used as a summary for whatever is free or sweet.

So, this post kind of wrap up our first project.

Which interpretation do you prefer? Or perhaps which interpretation do you think is closest to the original one?

You will sure brighten our days if you can share with us your insightful thoughts by leaving us your comment in this post.

Hope you all enjoy reading this post.

Till then,

Cheers & TTFN~

A Blog Recommendation

HoHoDooDa 16

Ho~ Ho~ Ho~

Merry Christmas to you all lovely souls out there!

It is already 25th December 2012 in Singapore. We are having a really cool morning and I am still limping around happily inside my house.

So it means I will still be home bound on this wonderful day – sitting on my working couch, watching TV, reading blogs and now, typing out this blog…lol… 😉

As a matter of fact, I’ve no intention in blogging today since I’ve already uploaded 2 posts yesterday.

See? There is always a ‘but’…

I came across the above picture while reading the blog of this lovely soul — maddie22201 — and I LOVE IT and so I decided to ‘make it mine’ by sharing it with you all!! Hehehe~

I am not sure if this drawing was done by her because she did not mention it in that particular post…but I still love most of her works.

So, if you are interested in blogs with paintings, drawings and doodles…her blog is just a click away~

The journey most definitely begins within.

The reason why I am not re-blogging this is because I want to include a video of Michael Buble’s Winter Wonderland in this post (because the moment I saw this picture, this song popped into my head).

I noticed that it is not possible to do it in a re-blog. If any one of you lovely souls knows how to do it, please let me know.

Thanks~ 😀

Hope you all enjoy this blog recommendation and also the song.

Till then,

It’s All About Twelves

~ The Festive Period ~

The Twelve Days of Christmas are the festive days beginning Christmas Day (25 December). This period is also known as Christmastide and Twelvetide.

In England in the Middle Ages, this period was one of continuous feasting and merrymaking, which climaxed on Twelfth Night, the traditional end of the Christmas season.

The early North American colonists brought their version of the Twelve Days over from England, and adapted them to their new country, adding their own variations over the years. For example, the modern-day Christmas wreath may have originated with these colonials

Currently, the twelve days and nights are celebrated in widely varying ways around the world. For example, some give gifts only on Christmas Day, some only on Twelfth Night, and some each of the twelve nights.

Extracted from:

~ The Song ~

The Twelve Days of Christmas” is an English Christmas carol that enumerates a series of increasingly grand gifts given on each of the twelve days of Christmas.

Although the specific origins of the chant are not known, it possibly began as a Twelfth Night “memories-and-forfeits” game, in which a leader recited a verse, each of the players repeated the verse, the leader added another verse, and so on until one of the players made a mistake, with the player who erred having to pay a penalty, such as offering up a kiss or a sweet.

Textual evidence indicates that the song was not English in origin, but French, though it is considered an English carol.

There are many variations of this song in which the last four objects are arranged in a different order (for example—twelve lords a-leaping, eleven ladies (or dames a-) dancing, ten pipers piping, nine drummers drumming).

In the nineteenth century, most sources for the lyrics do not include music, and those that do often include music different from what has become the standard melody.

In 1909, English composer Frederic Austin wrote an arrangement and the melody from Austin’s arrangement has since become standard. Austin’s was also one of the earliest, and possibly the earliest, to substitute “Four calling birds” for the earlier “Colly birds”.

The lyrics of The Twelve Days of Christmas may have no meaning at all. Its meaning, if it has any, has yet to be satisfactorily explained.

According to The Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes, “Suggestions have been made that the gifts have significance, as representing the food or sport for each month of the year.”

Who . . . Me?

This photo has reminded me of how we call owls in Chinese.

We call owls ‘mao tou ying’ (猫头鹰), literally ‘Cat Head Eagle’.

Love this cute photo so decided to do a re-blog.

Hope you all will love it like I did.

The Monologue of An Idea

I came across a very creative and humorous answer in the Yahoo!Answer for this particular question:

When you have an idea does a light bulb really appear over your head?

Yes, it does. It can be good or bad depending on the situation: if you’re passing under a low doorway, it might not be the best thing…if you ever need a new light bulb, all you’ve got to do is…have an idea. Then quickly grab the light bulb and screw it in! 🙂

If you ever have an idea while you’re wearing a straw hat, make sure to remember to take off the hat and remove the light bulb.

It could potentially start a fire, especially if the idea is particularly good, causing the light bulb to light up!

When a person starts to think and suddenly, has a bright idea! A light bulb turns itself on directly above his head. As a matter of fact, this trope has been subverted for decades — it became a cliche almost as soon as it was invented in the 1920s, for the black and white Felix the Cat cartoons.

Also, this trope may have been invented in reference to a Mr. Thomas Edison having a great idea about something…what was it again?

Read more at  IDEA BULB

An idea is a concept or mental impression. Very often, ideas are construed as representational images; i.e. images of some object.

The capacity to create and understand the meaning of ideas is considered to be an essential and defining feature of human being.

Plato was one of the earliest philosophers to provide a detailed discussion of ideas. He asserted that there is a realm of Forms or Ideas, which exist independently of anyone who may have thought of these ideas.

In a popular sense, an idea arises in a reflex, spontaneous manner, even without thinking or serious reflection, for example, when we talk about the idea of a person or a place.

Hi, my name is Idea.

I’m at the age of marriage and I am looking for that special someone.

To be frank, I don’t really ask for too much.

I just needed someone who can give me a ‘L’ so that I can be ideaL.

So, e-mail me if you’ve plenty of  Ls to spare and needed an idea as your life partner.

Together we can form an ideaL family filled with cute little light bulbs.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Have fun reading!!
