A Little Something Extra For Someone…

blog (or web log)  is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries (“posts”) typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first).

Before blogging became popular, digital communities took many forms, including Usenet, commercial online services such as GEnie, BiX and the early CompuServe, e-mail lists and Bulletin Board Systems (BBS).

The modern blog evolved from the online diary, where people would keep a running account of their personal lives. Most such writers called themselves diarists, journalists, or ‘journalers’.

Blogs have also had an influence on minority languages, bringing together scattered speakers and learners; this is particularly so with blogs in Gaelic languages. Minority language publishing can find its audience through inexpensive blogging.

On 16 February 2011, there were over 156 million public blogs in existence.

On 13 October 2012, there were around 77 million Tumblr  and 56.6 million WordPress  blogs in existence worldwide.

Your (Favourite) Christmas Theme Song – Part 3

A lovely soul, Ana Perry @ Jubilee Journey is so kind to share with us not 1 or 2 but 5 of her favourite Christmas songs with us!

Her favourite Christmas songs are “O Holy Night”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Let It Snow”, “Christmas Eve In Sarajevo” and “White Christmas”

We will share the videos for the two songs in bold since one is new to me and Ana has mentioned a preferred version for the other one.

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

~ Bob Marley

Have you lovely souls already hit the play button for one of the above songs?

If yes, let’s continue with the Christmas theme songs for the last four zodiac signs while the beautiful music fills the air around us.

LET IT SNOW

“Let It Snow” was first recorded in 1945 by Vaughn Monroe and became a popular hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard music chart the following year.

Singers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jessica Simpson and Michael Buble all covered this song.

Due to its seasonal lyrics, it is commonly regarded as a Christmas song.  However, the song has no Christmas references and is therefore a seasonal song shared by those who do not join in the celebration of Christmas.

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” was written by John Frederick Coots and Haven Gillespie and was first sung on Eddie Cantor’s radio show in November 1934.

Two elements in this song have made it of particular interest to children as well as adults. First is the attention-getting opening-line warning, “You better watch out,” and second is the delightful promise of an upcoming event, “Santa Claus is comin’ to town.”

It became an instant hit with orders for 100,000 copies of sheet music the next day and more than 400,000 copies sold by Christmas.

LONELY CHRISTMAS

This is a Chinese pop song sang by a Hong Kong singer, Eason Chan. It has another title “Christmas Complex”, which is a translation from its Chinese title.

One of its chorus (translated):

Merry Merry Christmas , Lonely Lonely Christmas

Wanting to give somebody my best wishes but having nobody else to call

This knotty love of ours

This is a sad song about how the lonely ones are dealing with their feelings during festive seasons and in this particular case, Christmas.

WHITE CHRISTMAS

White Christmas” is an Irving Berlin song reminiscing about an old-fashioned Christmas setting.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the version sung by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single of all time, with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.

In 2002, the original 1942 version was one of 50 historically significant recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry.

WINTER WONDERLAND

Richard “Dick” Smith, a native of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, was reportedly inspired to write the song, “Winter Wonderland” after seeing Honesdale’s Central Park covered in snow.

The song was recorded in 1934 by Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians. Later, Perry Como and The Andrews Sisters also made recordings of this song making it more popular.

The original bridge, about a couple who make a spur-of-the-moment decision to get married, was supposedly considered inappropriate for children. A replacement version was made in 1953, which is the one that we are listening to today.

SILENT NIGHT

Silent Night” (German: Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht) is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria.

The song was first performed on Christmas Eve 1818 at St Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a village on the Salzach river.

The song was sung simultaneously in French, English and German by troops during the Christmas truce of 1914 during World War I, as it was one carol that soldiers on both sides of the front line knew.

RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a fictional male reindeer with a glowing red nose, popularly known as “Santa’s 9th Reindeer.”

Robert L. May created Rudolph in 1939 as an assignment for Montgomery Ward. May’s brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, adapted the story of Rudolph into a song.

Rudolph’s first screen appearance came in 1944, in the form of a cartoon short produced by Max Fleischer for the Jam Handy Corporation, that was more faithful to May’s original story than Marks’ song (which had not then yet been written).

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU

All I Want for Christmas Is You” is a song originally performed by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey.

Its lyrics declare that the singer does not care about Christmas presents or lights; all she wants for Christmas is to spend time with her lover. Ostensibly, the song was inspired by Carey’s romantic sentiments toward her then-husband Tommy Mottola.

In 2010, Rolling Stone ranked “All I Want for Christmas Is You” fourth on its Greatest Rock and Roll Christmas Songs list, calling it a “holiday standard.”

Yesterday, I’ve stumbled upon  a post whereby this lovely soul has mentioned the word ‘SHARE‘ being the most annoying English word. I was perplexed when I saw the word and later fully understood those disappointments this lovely soul must have had felt as I read on.

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”
~ Mother Teresa

Perhaps those people whom this lovely soul had associated with were simply abusing the word ‘SHARE’ for their own benefits just because they have forgotten that people do in fact, belong to each other – directly or indirectly.

Your (Favourite) Christmas Theme Song – Part 1

The word carol or carole is a medieval word of French and Anglo-Norman origin, believed to mean a dance song or a circle dance accompanied by singing.

It is unclear when the first carol was written but it is believed that circa 1350 to 1550 is the golden age of English carols and most of the carols followed the verse-refrain pattern.

By the 16th century though, the popularity of carols faltered, almost disappearing entirely if not for the revival that happened by the middle of the 18th century. Most of the carols we know today were written during this period.

JINGLE BELLS

Jingle Bells” is one of the best-known and commonly sung Christmas songs in the world.

It was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) and published under the title “One Horse Open Sleigh” in the autumn of 1857. The “Jingle Bells” tune is used in French and German songs, although the lyrics are unrelated to the English lyrics. Both celebrate winter fun.

“Jingle Bells” was the first song broadcast from space, in a Christmas-themed prank by Gemini 6 astronauts Tom Stafford and Wally Schirra.

THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

The Twelve Days of Christmas” is an English Christmas carol that enumerates a series of increasingly grand gifts given on each of the twelve days of Christmas in the manner of a cumulative song.

The song, first published in England in 1780 without music as a chant or rhyme, is thought to be French in origin.

In the northern counties of England, the song was often called the “Ten Days of Christmas”, the gifts numbering but ten.

FROSTY THE SNOWMAN

Frosty the Snowman” is a popular song written by Walter “Jack” Rollins and Steve Nelson, and first recorded by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys in 1950.

The song recounts the fictional tale of a snowman that is magically brought to life through a top hat that a group of children place on his head.

Although Frosty enjoys roaming throughout town with the children who constructed him, the sun becomes too much for him to bear and Frosty is forced to leave town, promising he will be back again someday.

LAST CHRISTMAS

Last Christmas” is a song by British pop duo Wham!, released on Epic Records in 1984, on a double A-side with “Everything She Wants”.

It was written and produced by George Michael, and has been covered by many artists since its original release.

The single sold well over a million copies and became the biggest selling single in UK chart history not to reach #1.

The Show Must Go On…

When I first gotten these monkey and bear charms a few months ago, my mind was basically letting out a silent yell of distress…

¿ⓧ_ⓧﮌ “OMG! What am I going to do with these??”  ¿ⓧ_ⓧﮌ

It always seems impossible until its done.
~ Nelson Mandela

CHB-1005A

Life is a great big beautiful three-ring circus

There are those on the floor making their lives among the heads of lions and hoops of fire

And those in the stands, complacent and wowed…their mouths stuffed with popcorn

****

When the show is over and the tent is packed

The elephants, lions and dancing poodles are caged…

And mounted on trucks to caravan…

To the next town

****

The clown’s makeup has worn, and his bright, red smile has been washed down a sink

All that is left is another performance…

Another tent and set of lights

We rest in the knowledge:

THE SHOW MUST GO ON

Since this charm bracelet was inspired by a circus, I’ve decided to share the words of Christopher Hawke with all you lovely souls out there.

If you’ve read my latest post from — Cloud N Cups, Be With Us –, you may already know that something terrible has happened to the middle finger of my left hand during last Thursday; I have to take some time off from my handcrafting due to the swelling…hehe…

Despite having an inaccessible left hand at this moment,

THE SHOW MUST GO ON

It is just that instead of trying to juggle or putting my head into the mouth of a lion

I have to be one of those in the stands, complacent and wowing

with my mouth stuffed with popcorn!

What about you lovely souls out there?

It is sure cold outside right now and perhaps a good time to share this lovely song – “Baby It’s Cold Outside” – which happens to be the favourite Christmas song of this lovely soul, Kate @ Did That Just Happen Blog.
